I’m Dr Nita Bartlett — a specialist breast and general surgeon in Townsville, Queensland.
I’ve called Townsville home since 2019, where it has been my privilege to treat patients from all over north Queensland.
Prior to this, I practiced Surgery for over 25 years in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. I was awarded specialist qualifications by the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
In 2018, I completed subspecialist training and a Masters in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery through BreastSurgANZ and the University of Sydney, joining an increasing legion of surgeons world-wide who integrate cancer surgery that removes disease while preserving the cosmetic appearance of the breast.

About Oncoplastic Breast Surgery
Common breast surgeries:
-
Reconstructive Breast Surgery is a vital component of oncoplastic breast surgery aimed at restoring the shape, symmetry, and appearance of the breast following mastectomy or lumpectomy. It involves rebuilding the breast mound using various techniques to create a natural-looking result.
-
Wide Local Excision, or Lumpectomy, is a surgical procedure aimed at removing the cancerous lump along with a margin of surrounding healthy tissue while preserving the majority of the breast. It's often recommended for early-stage breast cancer when the tumour is relatively small and confined to one area.
-
Therapeutic Mammaplasty is a surgical technique that combines cancer removal (mastectomy or lumpectomy) with breast reshaping (plastic surgery). It's a tailored approach designed to treat breast cancer while achieving optimal cosmetic results, ensuring the best possible outcome for both your health and appearance.
General Surgery
-
Abdominal wall hernia occurs when an internal organ, such as the intestine or fatty tissue, pushes through a weakened area of the abdominal wall muscles. This can result in a visible bulge or lump, discomfort, and sometimes complications such as strangulation, where blood flow to the herniated tissue is compromised.
-
Melanoma surgery is a crucial treatment option for individuals diagnosed with melanoma, a type of skin cancer that originates in the melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin.
-
Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is a prevalent type of skin cancer that arises from the cells of the skin other than melanocytes. While typically less aggressive than melanoma, NMSC still requires prompt treatment to prevent further spread and complications.
